L-Phenylalanine is the left molecular form of the essential amino acid Phenylalanine. Phenylalanine is the precursor of the powerful neurotransmitter norepinephrine via the catecholaminergic process which requires participation of vitamin C vitamin B6 and copper for the manufacture of the various enzymes/activators. The synthesis progresses from Phenylalanine to Tyrosine to dopa, to dopamine to nor-ephinephrine. Norephinephrine is the neuro transmitter involved with motivation, mood elevation and it is our body’s natural anti-depressant. Caution The catecholamine process can elevate Mono-amine-oxidase (MAO) levels which in time can lead to an increase in blood pressure. Do not use with prescription MAO inhibitors and for hypertensive persons the starting dose should be 100 mg, increasing gradually, whilst monitoring blood pressure. Additional supplements of calcium and magnesium will prove beneficial in this context.
