New Development in Delivery Systems for Vitamin C

Over the past 50 years, various new delivery systems were refined for administering drugs, hormones and latterly nutritional supplements.

Where possible, the preferred route would be oral (by mouth) administration. Another diffusional pathway could be employed by “Pessary” or “suppository”.
Subcutaneous deliveries could be made by creams, ointments and gels and even by oral spray/mist via endothelial tissue in the mouth. The latter providing a very short and effective pathway to the brain.

Even though “Enteric” coating of tablets and capsules does afford some protection from the inherently destructive nature of the digestive system, it is preferable to avoid the oral route, excepting very cheap O.C. (over the Counter) drugs and supplements.

The tried and true injection, delivered by a syringe with needle, either intravenous for instant effect or intramuscular for a gradual diffusion, often for the treatment of localized pathologies, will probably be with us for some time to come.

However, a new avenue has presented itself in the form of the “Micro-Particle encapsulation” concept. Here the “active ingredient” for example “Vitamin C” as Ascorbic Acid or its salts (Ascorbates), is enclosed in a liquid emulsion envelope.

In our particular choice of such a product, we, at the “New Zealand Longevity Foundation”, sought to encapsulate in a mantle of micronised phospholipids.

The phospholipids are subjected to extreme pressure in a specially imported highly powerful electrical machine (400 Volts) which is capable of producing lipid particles to 3 microns or less.

This process was repeated many times to achieve even distribution of particles in an electrically stable bi-layer, to enhance the emulsification process in which the Ascorbic Acid was easily absorbed.

The advantage of this technology ensures the safe passage of any substance, through the stomach and small intestine, because the external phospholipids mantle is composed mainly of Phosphatidylcholine.

The latter is very desirable to all our cells since their outer membrane layers are structured with Phosphatidylcholine and thus are happy to get further supplies

Our liver uses the encapsulation mantle first, and then, after diffusing itself with Vitamin C, it directs the major portion to our heart. This enables the powerful heart muscles to take full advantage, not only to use the strong antioxidant properties of Vitamin C but also to speed Vitamin C enriched blood into our blood circulation.

Ideally, our blood should always carry a minimum of 500mg Vitamin C per deciliter of serum.

In practice, depending on the lifestyle factors of the individual, this kind of bliss is seldom bestowed on our hardworking circulatory organ.

The Micronised Particle delivery system, by providing undamaged Vitamin C to the liver in massive doses, contributes to maintaining youthful physiology.

According to the famous Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling, “the father of Vitamin C”, this could extend our life span by 18 years!
